some summer dishes

been LOVING the east street market all summer long. There’s a market closer to the flat, but East Street has an amazing vibe. And amazing prices. I knew we had found a winner when the fridge would close on all the fruit and veg and we had only spent 10 POUNDS.

So there’s been a lot of cooking going on. So much so, that I can’t keep on top of it. This stew was delicious, but I didn’t write down a recipe. It involved RICE and CHORIZO and SPRING ONIONS and also probably: mushrooms, onions, carrots, and who knows what else. This cake was one of those affairs where I threw things together and hoped for the best.. indeed, it turned out the best. Literally all I can remember is that I took the remaining frozen blueberries out of my freezing and sliced an over ripe peach on top straight into the baking tin. The batter was a riff on my favourite Butter Cake recipe (to be revealed someday) and I simply plopped it into the pan on top of the fruit.

Let this be a lesson: don’t photograph a delicious dish unless you write down the recipe. It will only tempt you.
